The land on which the church now sits was part of one of the original town grants of land made in 1635. The construction of St. Paul Church began on November 29, 1869, with the digging of the "cellar." Much of the work was done by men … Further repairs were carried out to the roof and spire of St Mary's during the 20th century. After the church was declared redundant, it was vested in the Redundant Churches Fund, the forerunner of the Churches Conservation Trust, in 1987.
